After 30 years in the denim industry, Jeff Rudes, the man behind the iconic Abercrombie and Fitch range, decided to branch out. Brimming with design ideas, he joined forces with celebrity and editorial stylist Susie Crippin, setting up J Brand in 2004. Together they aimed to create a brand focused on classical shapes, the perfect fit and a timeless look – with a fashionable edge.
The first ever collection was released in spring 2005 and was sold exclusively at Ron Herman’s Jean Bar in LA. An instant hit, J Brand was the first American jeans label to drive the skinny fit trend; a look which is now synonymous with the brand, helping them earn their cult following.
The level of attention to detail in all their work has led to J Brand gaining a cult celebrity status, and the label is regularly featured in the press thanks to their celebrity fan base. Some of the famous faces who are fans include Kate Middleton, Kate Moss, Rihanna, Florence Welch, Victoria Beckham, January Jones and Fearne Cotton.
